Surrogate Funding / Our story

The founder's story

Wounded in the house of a friend.

After Zechariah 13:6

I came up in the projects. At 21, I built a house from the ground up in a neighborhood where my neighbors were retired military men. I thought I was doing everything right. I had a mentor, a man I prayed with and broke bread with. Then someone lied on me, and he believed it without ever asking me. I had to prove my own innocence before he would even call me back.

That is when I learned what Zechariah meant by being wounded in the house of a friend. Nobody taught me how to see betrayal coming, how to choose my circle, or how to protect what I was building. I learned it the hard way.

I started Surrogate Funding so young men learn it from someone who has been there, not from a courtroom or a cell. Faith, family, finances, and order. Loud and right.

The name

Why “Surrogate.”

The vision for Surrogate Funding began with my father, Lewis Broome Jr.

Surrogate means one who stands in another’s place. It comes from the Latin surrogare, “to put in place of another.”

That is the whole work. A mentor stands in where a father, a brother, or an uncle is missing. He does not replace anyone. He shows up. And the fund stands in for the few hundred dollars a family does not have, so a small bond does not cost a man his job, his home, or his children.

Surrogate Funding: standing in, with what it takes.
